Prof. Lynn Adrienne Olzak, PhD, passed away on October 13, 2016. Lynn passed peacefully after a month-long struggle with intestinal failure and several surgeries. Lynn was born on November 23, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. She obtained Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees from UC Santa Barbara, San Jose State University and UC Los Angeles, respectively. She married her husband, Erwin H. Johnson, in 1975. In addition to her husband she is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly and Michelle Johnson, and her sister, Prof. Susan M. Olzak.

As an ARVO member for more than 35 years, Professor Olzak served on the Annual Meeting Program Committee and Low Vision Initiative Working Groups. Her research emphasized the neural mechanisms underlying spatial pattern perception. In addition to research, her teaching positions included a period at UCLA as an Adjunct Professor from 1992-1998 and as an Associate Professor at Miami University of Ohio from 1998 through 2015. Following her retirement from Miami, she and her husband moved to Lafayette, CA, where she was able to maintain her involvement in the field with an affiliation with the UC Berkeley School of Optometry.

She was a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and served as chair of the OSA Vision Technical Group from 1996-1998. ARVO, VSS, OSA, and EVCP conferences were the highlight of her professional life and led to friendships from around the globe with researchers in the visual sciences. Lynn's hobbies included crossword puzzles, reading mystery novels, travel, and discussing her research with colleagues.

At Miami, Lynn was instrumental in getting many pre-optometry students, including those working in her lab, into the optometry school at Ohio State University and was proud of the work they did there.
