Advocacy, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “the act or process of supporting a cause or proposal.” Advocacy can take many forms, including:
- Public outreach and education
- Meeting with policymakers to explain your research, its impact and the importance of federal funding
- Writing letters to officials
- Research (strong advocacy is built on facts derived from experts)
- Joining protests or rallies
- Introducing or sponsoring bills
ARVO wants to hear what advocacy means to you! What does it look like in your country? What are the opportunities and/or challenges? As we increase our advocacy efforts globally, your insights will help us develop more resources and activities to support current and future advocates.
